Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my garage door opener beeping?

Some premium garage door openers feature an internal battery backup that will operate the opener in case of a power outage. The garage door opener will emit a beeping sound when it is operating off of the battery power or when the battery is no longer able to recharge. While the garage door opener is operating using battery backup power the light bulbs will not turn on to conserve battery power.

Note: To obtain maximum battery life and prevent damage, always disconnect the battery if you unplug the garage door opener while on vacation or any other extended period of time.

LED Diagnostics

Garage door openers that are equipped with a battery backup will have a LED diagnostic to indicate current battery status.

Red LED:

The battery has drained and is unable to recharge. It will need to be replaced.

Orange LED:

The garage door opener has lost power and is operating off battery power.

  • A solid orange LED, with a beeping sound approximately every 2 seconds, indicates the garage door is activating the door and is operating using battery power.
  • A flashing orange LED, with a beep sound every 30 seconds, indicates battery power is low.
  • Once power is restored the battery will recharge. The LED will change to a flashing  green.

Green LED:

The garage door opener is NOT running off battery power.

  • A solid greed LED indicated the battery is fully charged.
  • A flashing green LED indicated the battery is being charged.

Why should I choose an insulated garage door?

A garage door opening is the largest opening in your home. Insulated garage doors help to reduce the transfer of heat or cold air into your garage. If your garage is attached to your home, air in the garage can travel through the doorway to your living area. An insulated garage door will reduce the transfer of air from the outside to the inside. If your garage is below another room in your home, air can travel through the ceiling of the garage into the floor of the room above. An insulated door will keep temperatures in the garage fairly stable to reduce the temperature fluctuation in the room above. Furthermore, an insulated garage door is generally sturdies and quieter and has a more attractive interior than a non-insulated door.

What is R-Value?

R-Value is a measure of thermal resistance used in the building and construction industry. Specifically, R-value is thermal resistance to heat flow. Many manufactures use R-values to show the energy efficiency of their product. This number is calculated based on the thickness of the insulation and its chemical properties.

The higher the R-value number, the better the insulating properties of the material. A door's insulating capabilities can greatly be affected by the door's construction. For that reason, Amarr's insulated doors are built to maximize energy efficiency. Amarr's thermal break, door section construction and insulation help keep your garage as comfortable as possible and increase the energy efficiency of your home.

Why don't my remotes work outside my garage, but work inside?

Garage door openers have an antenna allowing the communication with remote controls to open and close the garage door as you pull in the driveway. If your door will not open when you push the button on the remote and you are outside, but works if you are standing inside the garage check that the antenna wire is hanging down from the opener head. This will be a gray or purple wire hanging out from under one of the light lenses. This wire tends to get tucked up inside the light lens on occasion. But it must be hanging down to allow for full reception with the remote.
